Hailing originally from Minnesota, Rick now lives among the Californians. He walks and talks normally but secretly awaits the return of the Gophers to the Rose Bowl. Some things are best kept to oneself.
He began writing songs at age 17 but looks back on those efforts now as “mostly mush”. Says Rick, “I kept up my minimal guitar skills over the years and never quit writing but never really progressed. Six years or so ago, my wife and I joined with friends in a Bible study which still meets weekly. During that time, with those influences, these songs began to form. A few involve actually sitting and putting pen to paper but most come through inspiration, usually while I’m driving to work and so on.”
Raised in a Catholic family, Rick impusively fell away in his late-teens not to return for some 25 years. During that time he fumbled about with books of philosophy and learned how it is that reason can lead to faith. He says that, upon returning to church “ I was amazed at the depth of faith and mysticism within the early church, things I had never seen nor bothered to look for. They had learned a lot in my absence."
Rick works as a drug rehab counselor and is currently studying towards certification as a Pastoral Care Specialist. His background and training have proved useful on the trail of utter reality.
Rick has been married to Charlene for 21 years. They have two sons, Carl and Daniel, ages 14 and 10.
This album "River of God" is produced by Mike Brady with vocal help from Lisa Brady. The idea is to clothe the intensity of the lyrics with simple but appealing music.
The song "Remember Me" is just flat-out great. Listen to the piano.
